Japanese NEC recently announced that the company completed laboratory trials based on LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology for Telefonica at the latter's Argentine laboratory. During the trial period, which ran three months from February to May 2010, NEC has provided a comprehensive network system for Telefonica, comprising core network systems and wireless base stations. NEC stated that the company completed approximately 100 tests requested by Telefonica in a mobile environment with a 20MHz bandwidth, with an aim to achieving a maximum throughput of 145Mbps. To date, the trial network has achieved a maximum throughput of 95Mbps, according to the same source.

 

Aside from Telefonica, NEC announced on May 7 that the company will participate in LTE field tests initiated by Singaporean telecom operator SingTel, the ACN Newswire via COMTEX reported on May 7. SingTel and its subsidies in Indonesia, Australia, and the Philippines plan to kick off LTE field tests soon and NEC will take part in the trial, to be conducted in the Philippines, through Philippine telecom operator Global Telecom, according again to the CAN Newswire.
